Tinea Versicolor (Pityriasis Versicolor)

Background

Tinea versicolor in darker-skinned individuals typically presents as discolored patches on the skin, ranging from lighter to darker spots, often affecting the trunk, shoulders, or neck. The fungal infection, caused by Malassezia yeast, may be more difficult to spot on darker skin, but it can lead to uneven pigmentation and mild scaling. Treatment includes antifungal shampoos or creams containing selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, or clotrimazole, with consistent application to prevent the recurrence of the condition.
