Pitted Keratolysis
Background
Pitted keratolysis in darker-skinned individuals often appears as shallow, crater-like pits on the soles of the feet, accompanied by a foul odor due to bacterial overgrowth. The condition, caused by Corynebacterium or other bacteria, may also cause darkening of the skin in the affected areas. Treatment includes the use of topical antibiotics such as clindamycin or topical antiseptics, along with keeping the feet dry and wearing breathable footwear to reduce moisture buildup.
