Oral Thrush
Background
Oral thrush in darker-skinned individuals may present as white or off-white patches on the tongue, inner cheeks, and roof of the mouth, which can sometimes appear darker or less noticeable due to skin tone. Caused by an overgrowth of Candida fungi, it can lead to discomfort, soreness, and difficulty swallowing, with an increased risk in those with weakened immune systems or poor oral hygiene. Treatment typically includes antifungal medications like nystatin or fluconazole, along with good oral hygiene practices to prevent recurrence.
