Impetigo and Ecthyma
Background
Impetigo in darker-skinned individuals typically presents as red or dark patches with honey-colored crusts, often around the nose, mouth, or limbs, which may not always show the typical redness seen in lighter skin tones. This highly contagious bacterial infection can lead to post-inflammatory pigmentation changes after healing. Treatment involves topical or oral antibiotics, such as mupirocin or cephalexin, to clear the infection and proper wound care to prevent further spread.
