Epstein Barr Virus
Background
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in darker-skinned individuals can cause symptoms such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a characteristic sore throat, with the skin manifestations potentially appearing as red or purple rashes, which may be harder to detect. While most infections resolve on their own, EBV is also linked to more serious conditions like mononucleosis, and in rare cases, cancers such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Treatment typically focuses on managing symptoms with rest, hydration, and over-the-counter pain relievers, with antivirals considered for severe cases or complications.
