Genital warts
Genital warts are one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Sub-Saharan Africa, caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). These small, flesh-colored growths appear on or around the genital and anal areas and can affect both men and women. While often painless, they may cause discomfort, itching, or emotional distress. Early detection and treatment are vital to prevent complications and transmission. Regular screening, HPV vaccination, and practicing safe sex remain key preventive measures to reduce the spread of genital warts and related HPV infections across the region.
