Discoid lupus

Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE) is a chronic autoimmune skin condition that causes scaly, disc-shaped lesions, often on sun-exposed areas such as the face, scalp, and ears. In Sub-Saharan Africa, where high ultraviolet exposure is common, DLE poses significant dermatological and cosmetic challenges, frequently leading to scarring and permanent hair loss if left untreated. The condition is more prevalent among women and can be mistaken for other skin diseases without proper diagnosis. Early recognition, sun protection, and consistent medical care are key to managing DLE and preventing complications in affected individuals across the region.
