Dermatitis

Dermatitis refers to inflammation of the skin caused by a variety of triggers, including allergens, irritants, infections, and environmental factors. Common forms such as atopic dermatitis (eczema), contact dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis are increasingly seen across Sub-Saharan Africa due to rising urbanization, pollution, and changing lifestyle patterns. The condition often presents with redness, itching, dryness, and scaling, significantly impacting quality of life. Early diagnosis, proper skincare, and identification of underlying causes are essential for effective management. Promoting awareness and access to dermatological care can help reduce the burden of dermatitis in African communities.
