Bacterial Skin Infections

Bacterial skin infections are common dermatological conditions caused by harmful bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. In Sub-Saharan Africa, these infections—ranging from impetigo and folliculitis to abscesses and cellulitis—are often linked to poor hygiene, overcrowding, and limited access to medical care. They can progress rapidly if untreated, leading to systemic complications, particularly in children and immunocompromised individuals. Strengthening early diagnosis, wound care practices, and antibiotic stewardship can significantly reduce the prevalence and recurrence of bacterial skin infections in the region.
