Human Monkeypox

Background

Human monkeypox in darker-skinned individuals presents with a rash that progresses from macules to pustules, which can be harder to detect in early stages due to skin pigmentation. Other symptoms include fever, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle aches, with the rash often affecting the face, palms, and soles. Treatment focuses on supportive care for symptoms, antiviral medications like tecovirimat in severe cases, and vaccination with smallpox vaccines, which can help prevent or mitigate the disease’s severity.
